About
Karen Katz Therapy

I am an BABCP accredited CBT therapist with over 20 years of experience of working with a range of disorders and psychological difficulties with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.

I have a specialist expertise in helping people overcome anxiety disorders such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), emetophobia, health anxiety, panic and social anxiety.
I work with people experiencing psychological difficulties that are more mild with a recent onset to more severe and longstanding psychological distress. I am committed to providing high quality evidence based care and continually stay informed through continued professional development and training. I have developed expertise in anxiety disorders through holding a senior role in a highly specialist national NHS service for people with severe and chronic OCD and BDD, offering life saving treatments to those with the most disabling conditions.
I am committed to providing an inclusive, welcoming space, whoever you are including offering LGBTQ+ affirming therapy. I offer a wealth of experience and knowledge of evidenced based treatment to support clients to understand the difficulties and take steps to create meaningful change.
My approach

My clients often report feeling stuck in a pattern of thinking and behaviour and want to make real and lasting change. My approach focuses
on identifying and working through what is maintaining the current difficulties and will also give space to explore early life experiences, beliefs and assumptions that may have contributed to the problems development.
At the end of treatment I help clients to become their own therapist with tools to keep them well once therapy has ended.

I offer CBT and specialise in exposure response prevention (ERP) for obsessional problems such as OCD. This is the gold standard treatment as set out in the NICE guidelines Overview | Obsessive-compulsive disorder and body dysmorphic disorder: treatment | Guidance | NICE

I also supplement the therapy with elements of Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) which can help when clients have a strong critical internal voice and have feelings of shame.

I also use elements Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) which is a form of psychotherapy that encourages individuals to accept their thoughts and rather than fighting or feeling guilty about them. It emphasizes the importance committing to personal values and taking action in alignment with those values, even in the presence of difficult emotions.

I offer Behavioural Couples Therapy which is a structured approach focusing on improving communication and conflict resolution skills between partners. I help couples identify and modify negative patterns of interaction, fostering a healthier relationship. Through guided sessions, couples learn to express their needs and emotions, leading to increased understanding and connection. BCT is designed to empower partners to work collaboratively towards their relationship goals.
